Who will the new South Africa captain be?
Ben Stokes will take over from Graeme Smith as South Africa’s captain, replacing David Pocock.
He was the joint-top scorers with two centuries in the series.
Smith’s record was one fewer than Stokes.
“It’s been a long time coming, but this is the best thing for me to do,” Smith told the team in the wake of his appointment.
“I want to be the captain of South Africa.”
Stokes is the second South African captain to step up after a series of injuries has hampered his team, with former captain David Warner missing the World Cups and Stokes taking the captaincy.
Stoke, who had played in every World T15 in South America and Asia, has scored at least 25 runs in every Test in South and Africa, while he has been on the bench for five out of South’s six Tests against England.
Pocock, who has played in five of South African’s seven World T25s, has taken the reins for the first time since 2013, when the team won their first title in nine years.
Pocock was appointed after Smith was replaced by the same man.
What happens to the South African players?
The South African side has lost three of the four players they have lost this series.
One of those players was the captain, Michael Atherton, who was dropped after a slow start to the series, while the other was the bowling and batting coach, Martin Johnson.
Johnson, who is also the captain for South Africa, has been the interim coach for the WorldT20, and is the last man standing after the last-16 match in which the team lost to Australia in Perth.
While the other two players have been dropped, the rest of the squad are still part of the team and they are expected to be involved in the 2018-19 World Cup finals.
How does the World’s best run-scorer, David Warner, fare in the Ashes series?
Warner is batting .223, but the Australian batsman has a dismal .731 on the five-Test tour of Australia.
Warner has scored five runs in four innings at the end of the series and is batting at a very decent average of 31.8.
He has played the most Tests of any South African batsman, with 21.
He has also scored in all five of his World T5s.
Despite the poor Ashes form, Warner’s performances are good enough to earn him a place in the South Africa team.
In the absence of Warner, South African skipper Rilee Rossouw has stepped up and played the best cricket of her career, while captain Graeme Hodge has shown his mettle with six wickets in the opening match of the Ashes.
Hodge is the only South African to score six wicket in an Ashes match, as he did against Australia
